Has anyone ever found a valve to go inline with one of the heater core hoses? I want to stop flow to the heater core in summer and don't want to use a hose pincher - after 6 months, it would leave the hose permenantly stuck. So do they even make a 3/8 or 1/4 barbed inline valve for something like this? What is your guy's remedy?

FYI - I've been out lately because work, school, and gas prices force me to park the truck until gas prices drop. She has been stuck in the driveway for a month and it doesn't look like she'll be moving any time soon. I hope to soon be saving up for a 350 crate for her (the factory one) and saving up to rebuild the suspension and steering. BTW there was a replacement steering shaft for the steering collum that uses an actual u-joint instead of a rag joint. Was this a flaming river item? Someone on here had one - any info? I also had surgery last week - my appendix burst and is keeping me out of work and school - I'm going stur crazy! I want to use the time I have off to work on the truck but my body is still healing and I would only mess it up if I tried to do anything. GRRRRR!!!! The good news is that I have started again on my project to add LED dome lights and blue "atmosphere" lights to the truck. I finally ordered a bunch of electronics parts - I can work on electronics without hurting myself so it gives me something to do. The pics I attatched I drew a couple years ago of my idea. I want to light up all the air vents blue, make clear dome lights in the foot well, blue lights in the foot well, convert overhead dome light to LEDs, make puddle lights, and find some way of lighting up the power lock/windows switches. The way of lighting up the switches in my head (I know this grammer is HORRIBLE) is to place a plexiglass panel behind each switch that is slightly bigger to it basically lights up the outline of the switches. It will be tricky but I think I can get it to work.

Hope you're feeling better. Sounds like you're having a rough time.

On the valve you can get a brass ball valve fitting and some brass barb fittings (you can get at Home Depot plumbing department). Install it inline with the supply going from the intake to the heater core. The ball valve style doesn't have any washers inside it to weaken or break down. Then you can open close as needed. Just make sure to use teflon tape at all the threads to seal them up. Another good idea is to secure the valve the inner fender to keep from moving around.

As for the valve, I too had thought about that a while back when my heater core went out, and my local auto parts store (O'Reilly) actually had an in-line valve made specifically for it. I wound up going ahead and replacing my heater core, so I never tried it, but it looked like it would be easy enough to install. All you'd need is the valve and a couple of hose clamps.

Maybe someone else has some experience with this and can help.

By shutting off the heater core, you can get a cooler a/c - newer cars all have shut-offs for their heater cores - when the a/c is on the car disables the heater core.

Which hose would you put it on? Would that be the top hose? O'Reilly has these? I might try this too. Did not know the new cars did this. You learn something new on here all the time.

Yes it's the top hose. The top hose is the supply (5/8") and return (3/4") is lower. Both measurements are the inside diameter.

Or you can get a valve, that will connect to all of them, and make it so instead of flowing through the heater core, it'll just go from the supply to the return, right there at the valve.

Welcome back Tyler,

My '99 Tahoe has a valve like that you could allways order it form chevy or maybe a local parts shop may have one but i think it has a bypass hose, anyways i know it has 4 ports. and it's activated with vacuume.

Heres an ACDELCO P/N 15-5533 and a pic

Advance auto parts has them for about 30 bux made by Four seasons p/n 74781.

OK, thanks. But with winter coming on I will try this next spring. I guess it would not hurt to go ahead and put one on though. I guess it took GM a while to figure it out. This does makes since.

Damn, that idea of yours for lighting up the interior of the truck and highlighting stuff is pretty sweet. It should look awesome when u are all done with it. Hope u heal up soon.
