If you need a cable, take a long cable out of a donor car, cut it down and angle cut the ends so that it feeds correctly into the back of the gear it is needed for....

Yeah one end is appox 5/8" dia, the cable is about 4' long if it will work for you let me know just had it sitting around and no use to me. Do you have the gear indicator for a 72 tilt auto?

I tried somethign like that, however, the ends are pressed into a square shape...I tried that, then tried to file it down...with no luck.

OK, time for me to look dumb... is that 4 inches, or 4 feet? (I always get that confused) Either way, I think I need one more like 2 feet.

That process is called Swedging!
Most likely these were hydraulically pressed on a machine to square that up from the round cable shape to this sqaure shape!
Throttle cable places that repop Camaro stuff can do this for you! And...This ain't cheap! Sorry!

I kinda figured it was a press that did this. Even so, I tried using a shop press, vice grips, even a hammer.
Yeah, i still need a cable.

I thought I hit the jack pot in the junk yard, I found a later model speedo cable, with a plastic end cap on the cable. it looked like it was placed on a predetermined cut to length cable. I grabbed this, and figured i could simply pop the end off of the cable, cut to the length I needed, and glue it back on.
Nope. That didn't work either.

4 feet, did you say that the servo end was square? this cable is out of a 72 jimmy still have all the parts but I think it's era correct aftermarket since it's marked "dana".

Both ends of the cable were square. I'm talkin the cable it's self, not the housing.Just like the one you pictured...

Tomorow, i'll look at mine and see if I am mistaken on cable length...and see if there is a way I could use a 4 footer if mine was shorter.
What would you want for that?

I wonder that you might check speedo cable lengths from car to car and find one that is relatively close, and just assume the extra inch(s) in order for it to be operable once again!
Speedo cables on the Camaros were different from application to application, and quite possibly may result in a length useable in our Trucks...It's a thought!

If you have an end to end measurement for the cable, and end to end measurement for the complete cable with jacketed housing, we could start looking for you from there......

OK, it took me an extra day...but I just measured my cable.
30 inches...so we are talkin less than 3 foot. I can compensateup to about 6 inches either way by relocating my transducer for or aft on the fenderwell. but i can't see milking a foot out of it though.
