67 GMC out of a "time warp" - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just got this cool little half ton 67 GMC. It is really clean and original because it was always parked inside. It is the base model-cheapie w/250 six and three speed. The options were: am rad, lighter & over drive. It has a few scraps, but the original paint just shines, inside & out. The bed floor is covered with plywood, so I am anxious to get a close look at it.
The frame has the indent and holes for the later year PS, so that will be a nice easy conversion.
I will post more pics on the pic board, as they probably don't belong here?

That's the engine/transmission/overdrive combo that Deuce's truck came with originally. It got 21 MPG. Nice looking truck! Still has the original '67 only cigarette lighter. Those are hard to come by.

Frank, Now I wish I would have had time to really look it over but I was on a mission! I am still cleaning that engine...it is looking better all the time! Only about one more can of Easy-Off and it will be there!

I love those "No Option" dashes!

I put a couple more pics on the pic board. I it raining hard, surprised?, so I probably won't get back to it for a little bit. I am driving it around town, though.
The over drive isn't engaging and all the cable and wires seem to be there. Maybe a relay or solenoid? Any ideas?

My old '67 had a "T" handle below the dash that said "OVERDRIVE" on it. There was also an electrical pull-switch on the dash for powering the solenoid. Here are the steps I had to take to shift into overdrive:

1) Push in the "OVERDRIVE" T-handle. This would put the transmission in a freewheeling mode.

2) While in gear, and driving down the road with the accelerator pressed down, pull the solenoid switch, and simultaneously lift your foot off the accelerator. The overdrive should clunk into gear as the RPM of the engine drops to the right level for the gears to mesh.

I wonder if the original setup used some sort of governor to energize the solenoid. The pull-switch didn't look like it was original. It was really easy to blow the solenoid fuse if I pulled the switch either too early or too late.

I do have the pull handle and it is working and it free-wheels. I see the elec carb kickdown switch is unbolted. Still haven't started tracing electrical.
I pulled off the big canopy and took out the plywood on the floor. It is a nice looking truck now. The bed floor is unbelievable...original paint, not a ding...protected it's whole life. It really needs a little white bumper in back and that spare carrier off the front.

Frank! I believe the trans is a borg warner t 85 (?) This is what is in Bills red and black 67 w a 250 6 clifford intake stove bolt headers buncha cool stuff. There is a place in Puyallup at 1526 River Rd called HAGEN'S Auto Parts and Machine good folks when it comes to "Rebuilding" to new the electrical components for this setup. Their # 253 854 7020. Also there was some good info on these od trans over on a panel and suburban site 67 to 72 maybe someone remembers a link. Hope this help ya out!
