Power brake question
After the discussions in my previous thread about the "mystery" wire and my proportioning valve I'm wondering if the PO of my truck added power brakes.
Power brakes are not listed in my glovebox, but then power steering isn't either and I have it. There is no brake warning switch on my pedal bracket under the dash and the pedal rod seems a little short. Would a 71 Custom come with power brakes and steering without it being listed on the sticker? |

Re: Power brake question
Nope, it would be listed.
As for the short rod, when the P.O. installed the booster, he didn't bother to adjust the push rid. Remove the master cylinder and pull the push rod out. You'll see one end screws in and out. Make small increases in size. You'll want to leave a little but of free play. test drive it on the freeway after adjusting....or a long 2 lane black top...what ever. Hold it at 60 for a few miles, and then pull over and check for excesive hear on the wheels...esp the rear. If they ar etoo hot, shorten the rod just a touch. |

Re: Power brake question
If it's not on the sticker, it didn't come from the factory.

Re: Power brake question
It looks like they used the whole setup from a drum brake truck. That might be most of your problem.

Re: Power brake question
I assume that you have disk brakes in the front, right? If so, I'm pretty sure you have the wrong proportioning valve installed on your truck.
