Gas caps
Stoonboy has been looking for a stainless original gas cap to fit his 71. Bowtie got him one and it didn't fit, I gave him one from a 69 and it didn't fit, I found another that definetely fit my 72 and behold it doesn't fit his 71. Randy's seems to use a larger diameter cap. Can anybody shed any light on this mystery?

OK then why does my 72 use a different cap than his 71. My truck had 62,000 original miles on it when I got it and still had the original tank in it? When I bought a new locking cap for it a couple of months ago I told them it was a 72 and they gave me the smaller cap that does not fit Randy's 71 and does fit the older stuff and my 72. Something still seems strange here.

Maybe someone changed the upper part of the filler neck before he bought it. Maybe it isn't even a GM part that got used. Maybe it has been wrecked in its' past life, and the repair shop grabbed what was available and handy. This is just a guess.
My '69 still has the original stainless cap, although I installed a locking cap from NAPA, on September 11, of last year. Seems that I got spooked when I saw the lines at the gas stations when the public when nuts about gas shortages and price hikes. I didn't want anyone stealing my gas. I'm glad I was wrong.

half ton and 3/4 ton trucks use different filler necks. I tried a C10 cap on my C20 and it wasn't large enough to hook on the tabs. I have seen a few C10's that had the C20 tanks swapped into them too.
I think the C-10 caps are the same 67-72. The difference is whether they are vented(67-70) or sealed (71-72)caps for the emissions control.

Has anybody ever found one that will not let gas slop out all over the side of the cab? I've never had a cap that wouldn't, and I've used many.

palallin ,,,, got my chrome one at PepBoys but don't remember the brand. Since you don't have a PepBoys close to St. James (unless things have changed since I've been there) I'll stop by there and see what brand they have and post it here.
