Advice Needed
Ok here's the problem. I bought my '68 a few months back from what I thought was a reputable seller who claimed it had a rebuilt 283 in it. At the time, the engine was spotless and seemed to run fine.
Now here I am less than a 1,000 miles later and the thing is springing leaks on me. So far, leaks have sprung up in the valve covers (fixed), oil pan and/or rear main seal and just the other day I noticed a small leak from where the cylinder head meets the block. So here's my questions. 1) Is it possible that this guy didn't bone me and something is causing these leaks? 2) How hard would it be to fix these leaks? I do my brakes and oil changes but have never tackled anything this big. Would I be getting in over my head? |

Re: Advice Needed
your in for a fair bit of work, always have a shop manual to give you an idea of what kind of work your in for it describes every detail. sound like the guy didnt use very good gaskets or they have never been touched, and there dryed out, i found silicone everywhere on my orignal truck engine and I wont even begin to tell you about the shoddy electrical. basically gaskets are fairly simple to swap, just got to get right gaskets and good clean contact on bothsides of part. main seals you need a or hoist for best job. headgaskets require intake to come off and the need best seal of all. remember at least if you change the part you can trust your own work or the mechanics warranties. a chevy is always worth it

Re: Advice Needed
Have you checked the PVC system out completely? It might be worth checking.
