Re: how to ID the V6 in a 67

So what engine do you have?
The V-6 engine has the model and Serial number stamped on the top of the block just forward
of the right head. This number will help you know what size & series engine you have,
as the displacement and model are the first part of the number.

Sample number, 305E 387218.

Re: how to ID the V6 in a 67

there should be a number behind that 351. If it's a 351E you have a darn good engine. Similiar to the GMC "Magnum" V6 - the heads have much larger ports and breathe alot more (so I've been told)

Make sure you have a house hooked up to the hitch and start lugging away!

They started coming out in 1960 and as late as 1974, it was an option in GMC's only, the smallest engine it was offered was the 305 V-6 and went all the way to a V-12 (2 V-6's mated together) in the larger industrial trucks.

Here's the smallest V-6.....

And the bigdaddy of them all, the V-12 (which was mainly used in the industrial sector and big farms................

Nice !!!!

Re: how to ID the V6 in a 67

What was the last year they were in a pickup? I've heard they were available until '75 from a few sources(One GMC dealer saleman who passed on ) but seen on the net that you couldn't get them in a pickup past '69.................I have been kicking myself for not asking my neighbor(GMC salesman) what they were in until '75.

By the way, the V-12's were used in alot of OTR tractors................A few were used around here. When they were running they were pulling fools, but the double maintainance problems didn't go over well with drivers. So they don't have the reputation the large V-6's do here.

Don't know the overall widh on these engines, all I know is they're massive as far as V-6's go, the 305 that's in my Longhorn actually seems bigger than the sb 350 that came in my blazer and many people actually think that is a V-8, it sure is a cool sight when there jaws drop after I thell them that is a V-6
