3/5 springs ?? I dont want it lower in back

My truck has 7 inches of space between the body and the tire in front, and 7 inches between the body and the tire in the rear.

So if I lower it 3 in the front and 5 in the rear won't it be pointing up in front ?
I don't want that.

I'll be putting on lowered shocks with the springs. I have seen 3/5 pic's and they look great, I just am getting stuck on the math.

Here is how it sits now. is it higher in front than usual???

looks higher front & rear than usual. The top of the frame rail is higher than the top of your tire!

Re: 3/5 springs ?? I dont want it lower in back

The reason for the difference between front and rear spring drop values is that these trucks originally had a rake (rear higher). So originally, the rear would be roughly 2" higher than the front. With age, the rear springs often settle out more than the front and the truck tends to level out. An ECE 4/6 drop for example will result in an almost level stance with only a slight rake.

Yes it does have a 292 and a 3 speed in it. I think it looks higher too. It has some big old shocks on it look like from the 70's could that be the reason. maybe someone was worried about clearance when they put the mags on it.

That will be corrected when you use new rear shock brackets and shocks with the springs

Do the drop

Re: 3/5 springs ?? I dont want it lower in back

May have been that the PO put some heavy duty springs in it at some point, or lift springs or something. It definitely doesn't look to have a stock stance. Either way, once you get your drop springs I think it will come down a little more than 3/5 from what it is now. I would also recommend the shock relocators for the rear. I couldn't believe the difference it made to my shock angles out back. They were at about a 45* angle before I put them in.

Re: 3/5 springs ?? I dont want it lower in back

The front wheelwell openings are larger than the rear wheelwell openings. I made the same mistake when I was measuring my truck so I could decide how far to drop it. Measure from the ground (level) to the bottom of the body in front of the rear wheelwell and behind the front wheelwell. That should give you your stance. If it is sitting level and you want it lower in the front then you need to lower the front more than the rear.

Re: 3/5 springs ?? I dont want it lower in back

Early Classic's website has a stance page, which shows pictures of these trucks with varying drops.

Whatever the reason it sets so high now, once you swap all 4 springs out, your truck will set real close to everyone else's truck with the same drop as you did.

Re: 3/5 springs ?? I dont want it lower in back

I took Tomatocity's advice and measured it from the floor and sure enough it's 16" in the back and 14" in the front. THANKS TOMATO . Also a light bulb went off in my head as I remembered that my truck has brand new lug nuts on really old Slot's (the only new parts on the whole thing) which makes me think that my rims & tires were a recent addition. It probably had some bigger rims & tires on it which explains the gap. Once again THANKS for the help from the board members. I get the jitters before I move on something like this, and it's nice to have some feedback going in. I'll post some pic's when it's done. Thanks to all again.

The jury is still out on the slots. I have been polishing decades of crud of them, so depending on how they come out. They look better in pictures.

I really like Chrome Ralleys with the dog dish caps. $$$$$ will decide.
