Re: I need a GM part # Identified
It's my understanding that the 72 tank is slightly different and the gas cap is different also.

Re: I need a GM part # Identified
Joe
My 1972 dated and printed parts book lists a 3927086 cap but no reference to a 3927088#. The cap I found lists for a 70-72, 20 and 30 series and cab and sub with bodyside mld. That would mean chrome and a non EEC style as found on the 72 10 series. sorry, Mark

Re: I need a GM part # Identified
Mark, Part # 3927086, what exactly does it fit? I have found one of those also. I want one for a 1970 or 1971 1 ton. I also want one for a 72 Blazer 4x4.
Just need to know what #'s I need to look for. Thanks, Joe

Re: I need a GM part # Identified
Joe
I am at work today but cap #3927086 is the correct chrome cap for a 70, 71, and 72 3/4 and 1 ton cabs and suburbans. I will have to look up that number for the Blazer but all 1972 10 series models used the EEC style cap and there is only one number for those. I have found that one is the hardest to find and the last one I sawon eBay sold about $75 for NOS. I'll look it up tonight. Mark

Re: I need a GM part # Identified
Ain't it weird?? I mean, a simple gas cap is one of those things that are not being reproduced and that we want one. Custom Classic Truck magazine did a feature 2-3 years back, on a well-equipped CST. One picture was of the original gas cap, in chrome, and they added that the caps are rare. Boy, do I feel lucky!!! My truck still has the original gas cap, which I boxed up and replaced on 9/11/01, when the gas lines at the stations grew long and there seemed to be "a degree of uncertainty" in the air. Still got the original cap and it is securely stored away.
....think I'll get it rechromed and replace the gasket then use it just for shows.....yeah, right!!

Re: I need a GM part # Identified
Joe
This is right out of the GM parts book printed & revised 9/72. Chrome cap #3936556 is for: 1970 series 10-30 cab with C.S. w/o E.E.C. 71-72 Ser. 20-30 cab and series 20-30 fleetside with C.S. Chrome cap # 3927086 is for: 1970 71 suburban 20 series., 72 ser. 20-30 cab. Chrome cap #6263474 is for all 72 series 10 models and 72 aux tanks. This group is very hard to decifer but I believe this is correct for the chrome based on the Custom Sport listing. Hope this helps. Mark
