Newbie Looking at a 69 this weekend, Advice?

Hi,
I'm pretty good with cars, I have a '69 Vette that I've done a bunch o stuff to, but don't know much about old trucks. What should I look out for?

There is a '69 on carsoup That looks like what I want...

I want;
Something to tow my 69 vette with on a trailer
something that is in decent condition, but no show car.
cheap.
reliable
fun

Oh, what I like about it is that it's a manual, and it's blue ( the Vette is being painted blue )

I know there isn't much to go on but what do you guys think?
Thanks!
Keith

the link only brings you to the carsoup home page, where to go to find the truck link, or the specific link might be helpful.

p.s. I had a similar idea, I have a 69 camaro, I ended up with a 70 pickup....but its still cool to tow an old car with an old truck! (sorry, should read, old project car )

Here's the bare link, of course the above one worked for me;
http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.a...1&Page=2&ASU=0

it's in the thrifties, $1500-$3000 range

Lets see if the carsoup image server lets me link to it...

as with the purchase of any old truck, I would say it depends on the condition of the body....mechanicals are plentiful, but decent bodies are getting harder to find, and body work is much more time consuming than mechanical (personal preference though).
The 307 is likely not going to have enough grunt for your towing needs (could be speaking out of turn, if its a 4 speed with a creeper....it will get you going, but unless you have some low gears in the rear....I think hills might be a nightmare.....although 350's are a dime a dozen.....I would say $1,800-$2,000 wouldn't be a bad price, but that's IMHO.....

You might want to consider a 71 or 72 to get disc brakes (definitely if you're gonna tow with it.) Look for power brakes and power steering although adding power brakes is easy and fairly cheap.

I would also suggest you look at a 3/4 ton if you're going to tow with it regularly.If it's a 1/2 ton you may need to do some suspension mods to keep it safe.I also agree the 307 would not be my choice of engine for towing(it might make a boat anchor).Definitely don't skimp on trailer if your Vette is worth anything.

if you want it because its a 69 to match your vette, disk brakes are an easy upgrade. or you can put a 69 nose on a 71 or 72.
