Re: Steel Head liners!@

Steel headliner?
The only stock headliner would be vinal, and only on the 69/70 CST, or the 71/72 Cheyenne or Super.

Re: Steel Head liners!@

my truck has a 'steel' headliner I guess.....in the fact that there is no headliner, just ridges which I would assume were purely for rigidity, and not design.....is that what you are refering to? Did optioned trucks come with the same ridges, or are they smooth because of the optioned headliner?

Re: Steel Head liners!@

If you are referring to some factory literature or ad that mentions a steel headliner, that in fact is the painted steel inner roof skin, nothing more.

Ridges are there regardless. Just like CHEVROLET or GMC is stamped in the fleetside tailgate even with trucks equipped with tailgate bands

Re: Steel Head liners!@

It seems that you're talking about the bare cab, the ridges you're talking about all the cabs had them and the vinyl headlinear that Longhornman is talking about goes over the "ridges" if you want to add the vinyl one make sure the cab has the holes for the headliner to attach to, Andy can you show what the "dope smoking old man" did to your truck when he tried to add the vinyl headlinear?

Re: Steel Head liners!@

I have a 69 C-20 That was origionally purchased for a farm truck. Only options that it has are heavy duty suspension parts and 4-speed trans, and gauges. It has no chrome and also has a painted ceiling in the cab. I think vinyl must be an option.

Here's another "fly in the ointment".....My 70 GMC does not have the headliner, and no indications that it ever did, but does have the faded, worn out chrome plastic trim attached to the sides. What gives there???

So your cab has one piece of sheet metal which is the rood... no dome light, no place to mount the visors....

Exactly... like we said, only CST and cheyenne and cheyenne supers. That is the ONLY way to get one from the factory, no seperate option.

Your headliner fell years ago. if there is trim, there was a headliner. Does your glove box option sheet list Z-84 somewhere? (that would make it a CST in chevy talk... or a sierra in GMC talk)

Re: Steel Head liners!@

OK, just went out and got a pic of the longhorn's base model lack of a headliner.
This is what all non CST/cheyenne & Cheynne Supers should look like onless some one has done a custom something or another to it.

Re: Steel Head liners!@

My GMC is a Custom 1500 long fleetside, and no listing on the option sheet for a Z-84. The holes that hold the plastic trim are long gated, aroung 1/4" long. They are spaced to accept the screws to hole the trim in.

Re: Steel Head liners!@

Any chance that the cab (or glove box door) has been swapped?
Yes, GMC HAS done some goofy stuff, but I've never seen a headliner on a non z 84 truck...onless ownser installed. And, I know the Custom option package didn't have that.... mine didn't, nor any other I have seen.
