I found this board about a week ago and just got the "clearance" to post... I want to get back into these trucks and have been lookin for about 2yrs. Dang, they are hard to come by without giving up your 1stborn!!! Anyone have any ideas for me? btw, whats the difference between a '72 chevy and gmc shortbed? Is one harder to get parts for then the other?

First off, welcome to the board. You're pretty lucky since you live in Arizona. If you keep your eyes/ears open, and get as many of those free trader papers that you can, you should be able to find a fairly straight truck for not a ton of money. I can't give you a pricerange, but I can tell you that a GMC will be more "rare" than a Chevy. I think the formula works out to 3 Chevys produced for each GMC. Parts-wise, other than the front grille and radiator support, all sheetmetal should interchange. There are differences in what years fit what, but very few differences between the two brands.

Welcome to the board. I believe the GMC would be a litte harder finding parts for. (Front end/ tailgate). Thats probably all the differences there are.

Yep, yep...It took me about 5+ years to find a decent truck for a decent price, IMO, most California popular classic autos are way overpriced...Well, EVERYTHING in California is way overpriced

Sometimes I felt the harder I looked, the more they went up. Finally got a break here on the site from a member, best 4k I've spent in a long time . Just keep an eye out everywhere you go, if you get impatient you will pay $$$ for it

Good luck,

Mike

thanks for the reponses... I will continue to watch...

what are the chances of getting factory air into a truck w/o that option? would the whole dash, etc have to be replaced?
