how big is your cam?
ive got a crane powermax cam and all the papers that give me that lift and durations, and loads and all that. but whats the one number that people use when tellin exactly what size it is, hence, how big of a difference it makes?
i dont think mine is too big, but the lift is 3027 intake and 3200 exhaust, with a rocker arm ratio of 1.5, advertised duration is 272? intake, and 284? exhuast.

The most common way to talk the "cam talk" is by valve lift and duration at 0.050 lift. The valve lift is a constant number between cam manufacturers but the duration numbers can be different. Some companies rate the duration at 0.050 lift or 0.006 tappet lift. So that can make comparing cams a little difficult because they aren't using the same parameters.
But if someone were to ask how big your cam is, you would say: 0.454 Intake / 0.480 Exhaust lift with 272/284 advertised duration.

Beast is correct, but to clarify a little... Talk about cams duration at .050 tappet lift, but valve lift should be specified at zero lash for a hydraulic tappet and net lift if mechanical or the valve lash should be specified if quoting gross lift figures.
