Accelerator Pump Sticks

I just rebuilt a Rochester 4MV and everything appears to be working well except the accelerator pump sticks. When I did the rebuild, everything on the pump was new with the exception of the return spring and it's retaining clip. Could it be that I need a new spring?

was it a leather cup? did you soak it in gas for a while first before installing it? Did you clean out the hole it goes in to good? Just a few suggestions.

It is a rubber cup and I made sure everything was very clean when it was put back together.

Keep in mind there is 2 springs, one between the bottom of the pump and the base of the carb. (That is the return spring) and one between the rubber cup and the clip on the pump shaft.

I need to open up the air horn to look at things anyway. When I do that this weekend I will make sure that second spring is in there also.

If the second spring is missing, the plunger will only come about half the way back up. I'm just guessing, I have Never put a carb back together and left a part out

Um...I don't want to sound obvious but when I put mine back together I accidentally got the accel. pump backwards (not upside down, but oriented the wrong way on the linkage), and it would bind up. I had to take the carb back apart and turn it around but it wouldn't have worked any other way.

I think I got that part right. Take a look at the photo and tell me if something doesn't look right.

Also, does anyone know what the torque specs are for the four mounting bolts that hold the carb to the intake manifold? I looked through my Haynes manual and couldn't find anything.
