Starter Solenoid
Today after eating lunch the truck didnt start, I went back after school and it started right up. When I tried at lunch it would just sit there and sping as if the starter was not ingageing. I heard that it is because it gets too hot, what is the best way to fix this? Has anyone done a remote solenoid install? and how did you do it? Or what did you do to sheild it from the heat of the headers?

Re: Starter Solenoid
I would suspect the starter drive is shot. Some folks call it the "bendix". Bendix is a brand name for a starter drive. This is the gear/clutch assembly in the nose of the starter that engages into the flywheel. If you turn the key to start and the starter is spinning but not turning the engine over the solenoid is working.

Re: Starter Solenoid
That part could work one time and not the next, but it would get worse as time goes on. Chances are if the drive is shot the rest of the starter may not be far behind. May as well replace the whole unit.

Re: Starter Solenoid
If the problem does not turn out to be your starter or solenoid PM and I will send you a picture of my remote solenoid. I had the heat problem, installing the remote solenoid did it for me.
