Thanks for the kind words... the goal was to return it to stock... and I have done that except for a couple of areas.
I'm missing the hose from the charcoal cannister to the carb and the transmission spark control system... but I will have those on soon. And I fully understand the fundage issue..... Have been saving for a while to take it on and it took more than I thought it would... but loads of fun. Vic 1970 |

VIC, Did you paint the engine yourself? What kit-technique did you end up using if you did?

Used cans of chev orange spray cans. The key is prep (I was told as this was my first engine). A local restoration shop recommended -- degrease, wire brush, degrease, degrease, degrese and then several thin coats of paint. So time will tell... the exhaust manifold has eastwood high temp coating (gray) on them. The black was the same process as the orange...
I like the way it turned out and only time will tell. So far all the paint is holding... I will let you know in a few months. I looked at all the fancy stuff (POR, high temp special paint, etc) but again the local restoration shop said that they had about even results doing the process I used and a whole lot cheaper... again time will tell... ![]() Vic 1970 |

Wow! Looking good. There's just something about a truck that looks like it did when it rolled off the line back in '70 (or '67, whatever). It's an even bigger challenge to do that under the hood.
That blue GMC makes me green! ![]()

Absolutely beautiful truck! Try Walker for those stock exhaust pipes. Here's their web page: http://www.walkerexhaust.com/ Select Catalog>Light Duty Truck>Chevrolet/GMC to get the P/Ns for your truck. Other sourcees might be Maremount or JC Whitney.

That's a sweet looking truck.
I have a complete stock single exhaust system off my 71 GMC long bed. ( it looks like it had been recently replaced when I got it. new muffler, etc) It would probably work on a short bed if you modified it a little. You can have it if you happen to be coming through the Dallas/Ft Worth area anytime in the near future. It would probably cost more to ship than it's worth, though.

Eddie H. I solved my exhaust system challenge today... but you never know when I might stop by to look at what you have... and appreciate the offer... and good words.
Mike B. Found it today at Maremount ... it was a challenge... Part America web page was the only place I could find that sold it. No one locally could get the y-pipe or would try. WOW. And in a few days it will even sound good. Thanks for the heading and the good part numbers for my files. All others -- thanks for the words on the truck... helps sell the whole deal to my better half... AKA around this house as the boss... the one who controls the money and most everything else... but I would not have it anyother way... ![]() Vic 1970 |
