too much heat in my HEI
hi all, i just checked the cap and found that the carbon brush is melted into the cap, i am using a holley annihilator system with a laser shot pro strip coil
changed the cap only to have the same thing happen again i have never seen this happen before and have no clue to why this takes place help anyone?

What type of cap are you using? If it is just a stock cap, they use a carbonpile center electrode. Try finding one that has the solid brass center and brass terminals, it should last longer.
What gap do you have your plugs at? If your trying to fire too much voltage through the cap, due to high resistance in the wires or large plug gap, you'll have this problem. |

Use an MSD cap and rotor and some name-brand spiral-wound plug wires. If the MSD components fail, you have problems elsewhere. Is the coil designed for use with the Holley ignition system?

yea i had that happen to me once. I ended up buying a cap and rotor made by Blue Streak. and yes they are blue, LOL I believe it did have brass contacts also.

that is the holley coil recomended and thanks to all for the help, will let you know how to fix or why this happens whem i find out or fix it
