69 396? I'd say 4 bolt.

You could crawl in the snow and drop the oil pan to find out!LOL

Re: 2 bolt or 4 bolt

My guess would be look at the casting number on the back of the block where the tranny meets the motor then look that number up. Sometimes the info says 2 or 4, then I would just err on the side of caution and call it a 2-bolt. The only 4 bolts in a 396/402 would be the 375 horse hi-po motors. It took Chevy awhile to put 4-bolt BBC in the trucks. Now from 73-up BBC trucks would more than likely have 4-bolts. In any case the 2-bolt is stronger for everyday use than the four bolt (weaker because the 4 bolts pull from the same area and can pull out) If somone want to spin a BBC around the 7k area I'd say get a 2-bolt block and buy the splayed caps, but not a factory 4-bolt block. This is why I'd tell em its a 2-bolt (unless you want to pull the pan to 100%
