Overdrive shift indicator question!!!!
Okay everyone, please help me on this one if possible. I've decided to run a 700 R4 tranny in the '68 and would like to keep the factory auto column and have the shift indicator functional. I'm thinking that i saw an overdrive shift indicator (aftermarket or custom of course) installed in a '67-'72 auto column. I just cant remember where. I dont think i dreamed about it because my wife says she doesnt recall me talking about it in my sleep. Anyway have yall ever seen or heard of this or will i just have to fab one myself?

I installed a GM Performance 4L-60 into my 69 SWB a few months ago. I really love it. A correct indicator would complete the project. I think ididit sells one but it only fits their column. Let us know what you find.

Hmmm, not quite sure, but if you look in the vans from the late 80's, early 90's, you might get licky. You may have to trim it...might not work at all.
I was just noticing they have similar indicaters the other day in the junk yard...but I didn't look close enough. Let me know if you find a parts swap that will work. |

I would like to know too, but for now I buffed the letters off the back and put some stickers on the front. These were the most normal looking letters I could find at the time.

That's a good idea, actually...though mine would be much more offset...currently, Park lines up, but reverse is on the N, neutral is on D, overdrive is on L2, drive is on L1, and the edge of the indicator is for second. I can't get to L1 with my shifter right now.

Someone posted about this a few weeks ago. They got the faceplate from a later model van or something...Not sure what it was out of now...and had to trim it slightly (the curve was different) then installed it in the stock metal holder. The new letters looked nice if you could find them in a font closer to stock.

after i switched to the lokar linkage (no more binding stock linkage) the only thing that doesnt line up is 3rd (drive) and since i'm really the only one that drives it, it doesnt matter

Looks like a fairly simple high school shop class project to me. I did lots of fine plexiglass work way back when...it is not hard at all if the equipment is available. Know any high school shop kids? Recruit 'em!

Mine lines up the same as Project1970's does. I'm not too concerned about it right now, but wil probably want to fix it somewhere down the road.
