What's it Worth?

I just looked at a 1982 Chevy 1/2 ton short bed 4X4 and was wondering what you guys thought it was worth?

It has a 350 engine, what looked like a recently replaced th350 (it was alot cleaner than the engine), t-case had a couple drops hanging off but no puddle on the ground, 1990 suburban front end, Maybe a 4 or 5 inch spring lift in the front, and block lift in the back. The 35 inch tires were pretty much toast, the paint has been redone, but done poorly. I couldn't find any rusted areas, just the normal slight surface rust on parts underneath it here and there. The entire truck needs some love getting the gaps and body lines to line up and look better, but all in all a very decent truck. The inside is all there but also needs some work. The used car lot wants $3500 for it. I would like to offer them about $1000 less than that, but I don't want to insult anyone. I did not take any pictures but I can take a few later if it will help.

Let me know what you all think and your help is always appreciated,
Steven

Re: What's it Worth?

i believe i would give the 3,500.00 for it but like you if i can get it for less than do so i would qoute 2,000.00 and let them work you back up a little bit at a time. very nice looking truck from what the pics show.

That looks like some scary wiring under the dash.

Re: What's it Worth?

It looks like car lot might have had some sort of problem with battery drain, they had some of the wiring pulled down from behind the dash. There is an amp wiring kit tucked up there and hanging next to the gas pedal. They put in a new battery to get it started. Trust me this truck will need a whole lot of work for it to be right, somebody did a bunch of "JERRY RIGGING" on her. I have never had a 4X4 before and I love this body style 4X4. It will be a project for sure!

Re: What's it Worth?

Thats a 73-80 style dash pad, gauges and bezel look to be 81-87.

Looks like a good solid start! If theres no major problems id say $2000-3000 would be reasonable.

Re: What's it Worth?

make sure the wipers work. It has a later column, with the wipers on the column. They are suposed to have a switch on the dash in '82. Looks like it could be a cool project, if it can be had cheap enough.

Re: What's it Worth?

Something I just noticed on that cross member it looks to have some sort of spacers between it and the frame. Should it be like that?

Isn't the frame cracked just to the left of that???

Re: What's it Worth?

Gages look like an 82 but the bezel is from an earlier year. 82 Bezel's aluminum trim is one peice. The one in the photo appears to have 3 sections. Also, I'm not exactly sure what was involved with wiring the wipers up to the columb wiper switch but I would take a look under the dash to see if the connections were made with good crimp connectors and not just taped together.
Other than that it looks to be a good start to a nice project. Around here it's not very easy to find early trucks that still have decent sheetmetal.

Re: What's it Worth?

I also think the crossmember spacers were placed below the frame to try to alter the drivetrain geometry.
Good Luck

Re: What's it Worth?

I'm not sure about this one, the list seems to be growing and I don't want to get in over my head. Thanks for all the help so far. When I get a chance I'll take a better look at everything, and I'll have my list of things to look at with me.
