Truck for parts
Several days ago I passed a residence with a '72 Chevy 4x4 parked next to it. It seemed the truck hadn't been run in a while. I stopped and asked to look at it. This Chevy is the cousin to my truck. Exact truck with the exact equipment but mine is a GMC. The owner said that when he parked the Chevy several years ago it was still running. To make a long story short...the owner gave me the truck!! Come to find out my uncle bought this very truck new back in 1972. I'm unsure whether I should remove all the parts (axels, transmission, ect)...or just store the complete truck in the shop and use parts as needed.

Re: Truck for parts
Yes, I did get it home. I haven't fooled with the truck yet. I really only wanted it for the parts. Mainly the power steering system. But the axels, 4 speed transmission and the transfer case look to be still good. If someone was really, really ambious, they probably could fix the old truck up. I don't have the time nor cash to do so. I didn't think to ask for the title but I'm sure that I could get it.

Re: Truck for parts
I think you should restore it or sell it.You can buy the parts you want with the money.Save that beast! Not many K/20 Stepsides runnin`round anymore.I`d definately be interested in buying it if you don`t want to undertake a resto. What parts do you need?I`ll swap ya.It`s a`71,the mirrors aren`t original.

Re: Truck for parts
It definitely could be a '71. I didn't get the title when the owner gave it to me. I wonder why some stepside came with the tire indention in the driver's rear fender and some didn't? I still not sure what I'm going to do with it. Probably no more than part it out. If anyone is serious about wanting to rework it, I live in central Louisiana, come down and take a look. I will check with the owner about the title.

Re: Truck for parts
i'll take the rims and the pb booster if you sell.
I would take the parts you want, and sell off the rest....if you aren't going to restore it, and are going to take the parts you want off of it for your own truck, might as well make some $$$ and keep some other trucks on the road.

Re: Truck for parts
I very sorry and had no intention in getting anyone in trouble with my post. My main intent was to get ideas from the forum on what to do with the truck and tell the story about the truck. I've since decided for the time being I will store the truck inside my shop and if I decide at a later date to part it out, I will post the parts in the right section and follow the rules. Sorry again for any confusion. Randy I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!
