driveshaft center support bearing-removal
hey guys, I need to replace my center support bearing. Question is, does it need to be removed by pressing it off or should it just slide off ?
Thanks in advance for any advice. |

Re: driveshaft center support bearing-removal
I replaced mine a year or so ago and didn't use a press (but I may have used a BFH, I don't remember)

Re: driveshaft center support bearing-removal
Its easier to press it off or take it in and have the machine shop do it. You can slide them off but you do need a BFH and some elbow grease to get the job done. Much faster to let the shop take the old one off and put the new one on.

Re: driveshaft center support bearing-removal
Krue, from the bearings that I have removed you DID use a bfh. I also use something that I can drift it off with. To ease your pain the next time put some Neversieze or like product on the shaft before installing the new one. I don't know if it makes a difference as far as overall balance, but I always mark both shafts to put them back in reference to how they came apart.

Damm truckdude, you had a stubborn one. I soaked mine with penetrating oil for a few days. I had to hit it with a hammer a few times but it wasn't that bad.
