Well, I'm back at it again and apparently still have the same problems. When I brought my truck home on Dec. 2nd from the rhino lining shop my tail lights/brake lights went out on the way home. The fuse was blown put another fuse in and it blew it too. So I haven't really touched the truck since then because I'm pissed. But got a few new stuff for Christmas so I thought I'd try it again.

Put in a new fuse and got tail lights. Pressed on the brake pedal and the fuse blew. I have a brand new brakelight switch so that shouldn't be the problem. Nothing is touching at the rear so if anybody has any suggestions, advice, or ammunition I'd appreciate it.

climb under truck go down the length of the drivers frame rail inspect the wire harness especially where it's held to the frame with clips to see if it's shorting out to the frame

sounds like theres an hot wire touching an ground and when you push on the brakes it makes the wire hot it touches the metal an d boom blown fuse

replace the fuse, and try parking lights with left turn signal... then parking lights with right turn signal. If it only blows with one of the two signals, then you'll know that it is either the dark green or the yellow wire that has a problem... probably being a short to ground.
If the fuse blows on BOTH of the turn signals, then I would suspect a bad turn signal switch. (brake light goes through the turn signal on the way to the lights)

I'll check it. I have a brand new turn signal switch also.

You can test the turn signal switch easily then, by simply unplugging the one and pluging in the other one. No need to spend an hr or two installing it to discover that isn't the problem.

I guess my beef is that it just seemed to do it all of a sudden. I changed the turn signal switch 3 months ago. I'll check it also.

I installed a new steering wheel in my truck and the next day the brake light fuse started blowing every time I pushed the brake pedal. I checked all wiring underneath the dash and under the truck. I even checked the brake light buckets but still couldn't figure it out. This went on for about a week. I finally backed away and started retracing my steps back to when the problem started. I realized that when I had taken the old steering wheel off, that the 3 screws that hold the turn signal switch in were loose and I had tightened them before putting on my new steering wheel. So, I pulled the new wheel off and loosened all the screws. BABOOM! No more blowing fuses. I pulled the turn signal switch out and found a wire that had got pinched under the switch where the 3 screws goes in. I taped the wire and tightened everything back down and haven't had problem since. What ticks me off about the whole thing, is that the PO new there was a problem and instead of finding out what it was he just left the screws for the switch loose. Oh, well. Sorry for cramming a short story into a long one, but your problem is probably something silly like mine was. I've learned in my years of electrical wiring, that you've got to be creative and think out of the box to solve some of these problems.

Well, found the old turn signal switch lying around and plugged it in and pressed the brake pedal. NO BLOWN FUSE! Plugged in the installed turn signal switch and pressed the brake pedal and the fuse blew instantly. I can't get the grant steering wheel adapter off so I'll have to go get a puller and see if I can find a wire that's crimped like Hart Rob adivsed.

Hey Andy-You got to get the Boat for Sale CD from Bob and Tom. It's freakin hilarious.

Before buying a tool, I think I would look on the bottom of the column and see if the wires were pinched there under the thin metal cover. It's probably up top, but it would make for an easy fix if down low.

I'd love to get the bob and tom CDs, I used to listen to them all the time, but the station I used to listen to dropped them, and the only other one that has them on in the morning, has a signal weak enough that we can't pick it up in the shop.
