HEI incap coil bad?

Truck ran like a scalded dog last night. This morning no ignition spark. Could the coil have failed? any way to test? comments? ideas?

thanks

More than likely module. Take it with you and the parts place will test it for you.

Re: HEI incap coil bad?

My old HEI equiped 79 Chevy PU crapped out on a cold cold night in October several years ago on the way to the Chickasha, OK swap meet. Thankfully a guy stopped to help and he had with him a cap and coil. I popped it on and was running in minutes. He told me, and I followed his instructions to always carry a spare cause they were know to fail when you need them the most.

Re: HEI incap coil bad?

Just make sure you hook up all three wires for the coil. Some people only hook up the two that come attached to the coil. If you don't hook up the third you'll burn the coil up.

Re: HEI incap coil bad?

It's a good policy to change the module and coil at the same time.

Sometimes, the coil will burn up several modules before it fails itself. It makes the mechanic look bad because he keeps changing the module and it fails soon after. Changing both coil and module at the same time covers both bases and helps make sure you don't get stranded.

Re: HEI incap coil bad?

all ignition parts wear at about the same rate. running worn out plugs or wires and cap and rotor will stress the coil and module both. its good practice that if the parts on there arent fairly new to just do a full tune up when you change the coil and module
