Piston recomendations

I am finally going to get my commision from a porject I did at Ford in Sharonville OH, so I can get my 327 machined and ready to rebuild. It needs bored 0.030 and so I need new pistons. I am thinking of Keith Black Silv-O-Lite Hypereutectic. Either with a flat top or .100 dome. Any opinions? They are reasonably priced and that is good. Only $20 diff on the flat top or domes, so it's a toss up. I like the higher comp with the domes. I am using Vortec heads when I put it back together, and thinking of getting the 327/350HP cam with .447 lift.

Thanks

If you are using vortecs then go with the flattops. Domes pistons would put your compression in the 11:1 area with those heads . Also I believe the design is different to the point that the standard .125" 11:1 piston dome wont fit in the vortec head without a littlwe massaging. Running 11:1 on the street is miserable.

11:1 is what I had before. I had some small chamber (58cc) 305 heads before. I want to be around 9.5:1 or above. Aren't Vortecs 64cc heads? So with flat tops I would have around 9.5:1. That is at the very bottom of where I want to be. But I don't know the chamber volume for sure on the Vortecs.

I agree with mikep, as flattops are what those heads are designed to work with best. I think the comb chambers are 64 cc's. The best plan (imho) would be to pay extremely close attention to your quench distance. For good information on "quench" go to: http://www.speedomotive.com/ click on the engine building tips section. Also, KB pistons has some of the same info on its web site.
Your final compression ratio will probably end up in the 9.5-ish range with flat top pistons, BUT you are gonna love the performance! If you keep your combo within "normal" specs, (IE flat tops, and a "tight" quench area) you will enjoy knock-free kick-a$$ performance.
hope I've been some help, and not cornfused,,,steve
