Billett dash overlays...

What I want to know is why a piece from a book can say a part fits from 73 to 77. This dash for example. I happen to have a 73 dash here. I also have a 85 with the das out of it. So to see for myself. I put it in. Seems to fit. Of course the lights are out of position, and the is a extra hole for the wiper switch. But up on the top portion it fits. I KNOW that if this idea came to me then someone else has done the same thing, or at least measured it. I'm going to go try and install it the rest of the way and see how it goes

I guess what I want to know is can someone tell me the difference between years. So far all I can find is the shape of the gear indicator. A/c vents are the same.

Re: Billett dash overlays...

Dashes are 73-78, 79-80 and 81-87. They differences are from the overlap to cover the guage bezel on the 81-87 vs them flush with the bezel on the 73-80. The 73-80 is more rounded on its for where the 81-87 has tighter turns. The 79-80 dash has a hole for the VIN located in the dash, which is the only difference from the 73-77's.

The metal form UNDER the dash is the same however.
