I had issues today lowering my 70'

I installed a set of 4" rear springs and opened the box and noticed one spring was about 1/2" taller. What side is supposed to get the taller spring?. I think have installed the taller spring on the passenger side. The second part of my problem is I cut my front springs equally and the passenger side sits higher. My buddy said this will "seat" itself when I drive it. The passenger side front and rear sit about 3/4" or so higher. The truck looks funny!.Will the passenger side of the truck sit level after that spring seats itself????. I plan to drive it over some bumps after I get my dash back together

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

anytime i've gotten sets of springs they've been the same height// b-4 using them i'd suggest calling the manufacturer or supplyer so if required you can return them in new condition// i doubt that they'll "seat themselves"// as far as your fronts go i'd suggest buying new springs

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

I just talked to my neighbor today and he said he always puts the taller spring on the driver side to compensate for his body weight on the driver side. That actually sounds right since I'm usually the only one in the truck. When I plant my 235 pounds in the seat my side of the truck does go down some. As far as my Front cut coils, he agrees that the one higher spring will seat into place after going over some bumps. He said it sounds like a bomb going off!. My dads 70' was also lowered the same exact way back in the summer and his is perfect but I never took his before and after measurements of everything.

Springs should be the same height! Never have I had a new set of springs where one was taller than the other.

The springs shoudn't have to seat themselves if you put them back into the spring pockets correctly. As for the rears, call the company you bought them from and get them sent back for ones that are the same height.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

What is the correct way to put the cut springs back in the pocket?. I've talked to 2 other people today who said they had to drive over speed bumps to get their cut springs to seat. I sent an email to the vendor who sold me the rear springs to ask about the 1/2" height difference.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

what they said springs should be the same size height.if you put the right size in and it still sits funny then something is tweeked,or there is to much preload on the suspenion somewhere [tightened up a-arms/trailingarms while hanging in air] should be done sitting on level ground. good luck

OK, how much did you cut off on the front springs? Did you cut exactly 1 coil or did you cut more or less than a coil? If you cut exactly 1 coil from it, it should line right back up in the spring pocket correctly without issues.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

I cut one and a quarter which is about 3" drop. I can see where the passenger spring is not wrapped around the top ring correctly like the driver side. I'm going to seperate the ball joint and redo that one. That should take some pressure off the opposite rear corner and hopefully raise it up some.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

That explains why they aren't seating easily. That extra 1/4 coil you took off prevents it from seating in the proper location easily. You should still be able to get them to seat though, but cutting 1 exact coil off and it fits just like it did before you cut it since the pocket has a groove in it designed for where the coil has its end to fit.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

Are you referring to the top groove?. The cut part was placed on the bottom. We have done a few trucks this same way with no problems. I'm just going to break it apart again and line it up real carefully.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

I agree with fleet. I was told to only cut one coil off only to. No more or less. And my spring sets in the spring seat and its level with a 1 coil cut. But it did not drop the truck 3". Now im thinking of adding dropped spindles.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

I took it apart last night and it looks better. I'm still not sure about swapping the rear springs or sending them back for an exchange. I will post pics and measurements when it's finalized.

Re: I had issues today lowering my 70'

Quick question- would it be possible to place a steel shim under the driver side rear spring cup since it's shorter to raise it up to match the other side???. I placed my jack under that part of the frame and all 4 corners were the way I would like them. I really don't feel like going thru the hassle of removing both sides and sending these springs back to the vendor and waiting for shipping. This has been a royal pain.
