Any COPO 427's out there?

Back in the 60's if you knew somebody up in the ranks at GM you could get just about any engine in any vehicle that would shoehorn in. There were a few 427 tripower shevelles and camaros put out in Central Office Production Order ( COPO ) form as well as some corvette 427 engines thrown into some big passenger cars. What about trucks ? I imagine there were a few bigwigs at GM driving trucks with the big nasty rats in them. Anyone know of any?

Well, mine's no copo but it is a '69 427 out of a Kingswood wagon. Got a friend that has posted on this board and lives about 10 miles from me with a '69 ZL1 Camaro. And yeah, its one of the originals.

I doubt there was such a thing. If your looking for the iron COPO 427 you might find one but it's going to be in the high 20's. If your looking for the Alluminum 427 those are very rare. I've had one in a box for over 20yrs now. I grab it before I sold my parts house back in 78. It's a full motor correct numbers and no one has stepped up to offer enough to get it. I just never found the right piece to put it in, and I'm not looking to spend 120K for a COPO Yenko, even though I know where one is, so I can have a spare motor for it.

Hey Jeff, nice to see you around here That friend with the ZL-1, is he gunna be around when we all get down there on the 5th? I would love to see it in person.
On this subject, I am sure some trucks were installed with hotter engines, but probably not from the factory. Maybe dealer installed, WAY back then, I am sure the dealer would bend to a customers needs $

Hey Craig, we're really lookin forward to the Hot Rod Reunion at Famoso. My friend with the ZL1 has been doing a several year restoration to it and it's still not done. He bought it back in the late 70's in New York I beleive and trailered it back to Calif. I remember he gave something like 12,000 for it. I thought damn thats a lot of money. He never drove it too much and then the value of the car jumped so much he was kinna of afraid to drive it. That car is worth mega bucks now.

You can bet the farm a few of them were made. Back in those days "big wigs" could get anything they wanted. The problem is that was during the last hayday of the muslecars so nobody cared. GM kept such poor records back then, if it was not for places like Yenko, there would probably not be a record of the Camaros and Chevelles. And the first person to get it after the big wig was thru would have yanked the motor and put it in something cooler. If there was one out there that could be documented, you would have seen it in a magizine by now. [unless it is still collecting dust in a barn somewhere]

I didnt think the Yenkos were COPO's. Weren't they dealer added option packages built at the dealership?

The Yenkos were COPO's in '69. The 67 and 68 Yenkos were not COPO's they were dealer installed. Some of the other dealers did installs as well, i.e. Dana, Baldwin Motion. BTW, the COPO (Central Office Production Option) refers to the 427 motor only in this case and not to the whole Yenko package.

i belive my truck was a special order truck a 71 swb 2wd and 25 options on it 402 bucket seats and all the good stuff it got name plats on both doors
