Internal regulator alternator

I want to do away with the voltage regulator and use a alternator with a built in regulator. I'd rather NOT use the one wire setup. Can I use a DA Plug, like you get from Patrick's, to hook up a two wire Delco internal reg. alternator? If so the red wire on the DA plug goes to the "BAT" terminal on the alternator. The other "white" wire is then connected to an ignition source and used as an ignitor. If I do it this way there will be juice to the "BAT" terminal at all time but it won't drain the battery. Am I correct in this. Thanks.
