It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
I did a V8 conversion on my beater truck. Out with the 292 and in with a warm 350. It was a full days work.
I also built a real neat auto trans cooler module for in front of the radiator. My radiator had a bad cooler, so I just bought an external one and made a mounting arrangement for it out of steel. I had to build an automatic trans shift linkage for the swap too. I used parts off some old Pontiac boat. It actually turned out much nicer than a stock 67-72 linkage is, so I'm happy. Tomorrow, I start building the exhaust for the V8 swap. Decatur swap meet is in less than 2 weeks, so I'm really pushing to get it done. Also tomorrow, my wife goes to war with the hags at the licensing office to get my antique plates approved and registered.

i made sure i didnt go to the corvette and performance swap meet so i wouldnt buy anything. went over to a friends house and talked trucks. he's painting my 4x4. while there one of his friends stopped by. he was trying to come up with some cash to purchase a 55 chev. i bought a newly rebuilt 402 for my cheyenne from him. he also had a complete 70 short wide project. fresh paint but needs to be assembled etc etc...um i bought that too. next weekend im staying home.

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
Kevin,
What happened to your green '70 step side? Did you sell it? I was lazy this weekend. I walked out an looked at the truck a couple of times and then went right back into the house. I installed a 1 gig memory card in my PDA so I can use it as an IPOD. Then I spent the rest of saturday coping all of my cd's to it.

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
whipped out the th350 from the side of the garage, blew it off, washed it with the pressure washer, painted it the same red as the engine, put a new gasket and filter on it (found out the previous owner used royal purple fluid haha) and i'm waiting for my new chrome dipstick so i can finish her up. oh and i got a B&M drain plug for her while at o-reilys. that's going to make my life much easier.
![]() also rebuilt the carb and got the red paint off the fins on my valve covers so the fins shine now. the new chrome pcv/breathers and oil fill caps are in the mail with the chrome dipsticks, thermostat housing, and also new chrome t-handle valve cover bolts. i found out the chrome altenator brackets i bought because i thought i needed them for headers and a short water pump wouldn't work??? so i used the stock piece after painting it. i got the intake painted silver annnnd the fan is painted but not on till i finish the power steering setup ![]() ![]() Last edited by matthufham; 02-12-2006 at 10:30 PM. |

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
MACKL, I did sell the step side. Once they get to a certain point, I get bored with them.
The truck I have now started as a 300 dollar chassis and bed from Matt. I went from there. I'm up to about 2000 dollars in it, but the tires, engine rebuild, and Early Classic lowering stuff ate up most of that.

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
Saturday morning my son dropped by with his '72 and we pulled the exhaust manifolds off and installed new gaskets & bolts. Replaced the valve cover gaskets. WOW! That 350 sure sounds better now.

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
I think I located my battery drain to the cigarette lighter and Identified why my right blinker doesn't work. Also was able to put it back in the garage and free up some parking space around the place.

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
Mounted my amp and speakers under my seat frame so I can play my i-pod when I get sick of am talk radio. It's a nice way to avoid the head unit mounting location dilema.

I said goodbye to my 84 this weekend. The new owner & I swapped the engines in both of them so now my 396 is back in the 69 where it belongs & also finished shining up the stainless shifter lever I made. I also installed my headlite covers. Now Im just sitting around being lazy...corn

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
I had to do some work on my welding rig, it needed a new belt and it had some oil leaks around the valve inspection plates. Got it fixed Friday and I was welding most of the weekend. I was also working on my BBQ pit, almost got it finished. The base is a 10 lug 20" split rim, I have a plate welded over the wheel hub hole, and 3ft of 2" pipe comes up off that and holds the pit up, which is 3ft of 18" diameter pipe. All that metal is held together with my "professional quality" welds made with 1/8" 6011 rod.

Re: It's that time, what did you get done this weekend.
I went to the Corvette and High Performance Swap Meet and got my 67 GMC tailgate cherried out. Actually I bought a take-off tailgate with the local GMC dealer's decal still in perfect shape. I already had a "small letter" gate that needed several hours of body work to be cherry. Now I can sell it and the cost of the take-off will be a little more reasonable.
Also had a board meeting with StilLookin, LiveRat and LazyGuard. We are all looking forward to next weekend and the "Early Bird" swap meet. There should be a lot more truck parts than this weekend. Every little bit leads to the big end - a finished truck - Bob
