71 C20 Parking Brake Cables - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

First time post here.

My truck has been family owned since new. It's really in great shape but needs a few things. I've been going through a complete brake job and found that the left rear parking brake cable is shot. Need a little advice

It's an original 71 C20 longbed, leaf spring truck (D60). LMC doesn't seem to list a cable for the 71' They do list the 67-70 with leaf or the 68-72 with coil or the longhorn from 68-72 regardless of rear spring.

Will one of these setups work for me? I've tried a few different places including NAPA and no one seems to list the exact application.

I could just order what I think will work but if it doesn't fit I will have to deal with a return and delay.

Any advice much appricated.

Welcome to the board!

I would go to NAPA personally, call it a GMC instead of a chevy, and when they ask about the rear, just say with a dana rear. You could remove the bad one and carry it in so you can match it up (assuming they'd have it on hand, which, they may)
I have been told that if you live in a major city, to just look up cables in the yellow pages... never tried it myself, but it might be worth a try. They can fab one up using your old one as a template.

And going through all this trouble, you oughta replace all the cables, this way it'll be 2035 before you need to worry about it again. And by then the question will be ablut the hovercraft conversion. (weren't we saying that in the 80's about today)?

Also... LMC is not exactly the best place to deal with. They are over priced, and have a bad track record. You'd probably order a cable, get charged for an engine, and recieve a wing nut.

Some NAPA's may be able to custom make a cable using your old one as a template. Helps if the NAPA you go to has machine shop service. Just a thought, worked for me in the past with brake cables.

some auto parts stores have a universal cable// as long as your original cable housing is ok just pull the old one out slip the new one in(lubricated of course) cut to fit and with clamps in the kit it'll be good to go
