in fear of sounding like a mean critic i must mention the trans cooler lines where they come from tranny to the frame. they should have some sort of flexability in them. otherwise they will crack at the nut and spew fluid all over the road making a mess of your hard work along with burning up your trans. other than that it looks great. its not very often I see a truck with the divorced PS setup.

what would you suggest for flexibility on the cooler lines? just a short piece of hose and clamps? its not going to be show material just a driver. also what do you mean by divorced ps? Thanks Ron oh yeah the ride a round the block wasnt too bad it was warm today just my 5 gallon bucket kept sliding off the frame rail

I was going to mention the lines too. Even though they are a pain to get on and off, the factory lines run right next to the trans and motor and are secured to the motor, at least they were on mine. That way when the motor torques over, the lines move with it. I would think if you attach them to the frame, it will leak pretty bad after a few torque enduced twists.

Divorced style power steering has an assist cylinder on the linkage instead of fluid pressure integrated into the steering gear. This is common on 68 and earlier Chevy cars and trucks. It can be a little touchy during highway driving.

BTW great looking project.

to nc67 the exhaust manifold are just coated with cast rattle can paint (cheap) from fleet farm. I figured whatever i put on them in my budget will burn off any way so i thought i would try to make it look good for pics untill i started it!

Thanks for the info on the power steering, i am getting smarter all the time!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got something done on the truck and on a work day to boot...whhooo hooooo! I had to paint some parts for a trade show so used the rest of the paint to spray the inside of my cab. Now I can start the interior reassembly...after I put down the sound insulation.

Truck is looking good, I bet your getting a little anxious. As far as the trans lines goes I used a couple of braided flex hoses and ran them to an aluminum block I made up to mount on the frame, gave me an easy disconnect when ever I needed it. On the exhaust manifolds they do make a particular paint for resoting these and it does last a little better than high temp paint, you may also check with some of the local paint shops to see if anyone does the ceramic coating and see if it's possible to have them done with that.

Interesting thought about the engine test stand. I used part of a frame for a cab dolly and eventual rotisserie. Why not use the front section for an engine test stand?
