Eaton HO52 Rock ring

Well I am done fabbing up the rock ring for my HO52. It isn't perfect, but I think it is pretty cool. I just dropped it off at the chrome shop (since we all know that chromed parts are faster than unchromed parts). These pictures are before it is chromed. The ring is plasma cut out of 1/2" plate. It was pretty rusty and pitted and took alot to sand it down to polished form. The center band was actually some angle iron that I had lying around. I had to cut off the one side. It would have been easier to use just some flat band iron, but I didn't have any. Use what you have I guess.

My drainplug was (as far as I know) stock. I have seen the same plug in other Eatons. I just sanded it with wet/dry paper from 400 grit all the way to 2000 grit (2000=polished steel) and then clear coated it.

As for makeing more... it was simple enough to build anyone here could do it. If you really want one fabbed try someone like Randy at Blackbird custome trucks. Show him the picture of mine and have him build it. Along those some lines you could show any semi-competent metal worker these pictures and have them do the basic work. You could do the sanding for the chrome plating or you could prep it less and still get a great look from paint or powdercoat!

Now I am going to try to fab up some skid plates for the Eaton. That ought to be fun, but will look way cool in chrome.

Re: Eaton HO52 Rock ring

Well the ring came back from the chrome shop on Friday. It looks AWESOME. I can't believe it was me that fabbed it up! My old shop teacher would be proud enough to shed a tear.

I installed it on Sunday and it looks even better than I thought it would. You can see that thing easily from the lowered civic tailgating my truck. Who says that bling is only for cars and 2wds?

Pics in a couple of days.

Promissed pics, please.

I've never seen a recessed hex, Eaton fill plug, either.

Re: Eaton HO52 Rock ring

I haven't taken any with it on the truck, but here it is before I installed it. By the way, it looks waaaay too good for the truck. Now I have to clean up other stuff.

HOLY KWAP!

And I thought I had "Obsessive Eaton Disorder!"

[Outstanding work. It's only too good for the Eaton if you bash it ]

Re: Eaton HO52 Rock ring

I'll have to get a picture of it on the truck. I have just been waiting for the snow to melt so I can get some good closeup shots, but it is snowing hard right now as we speak. Give me a couple of days and I will tease with some more shots.

Re: Eaton HO52 Rock ring

I was thinking about making ine out of like 1/8" or 1/4" plate.I know people with that have CNC plasma cutters and if they could cut me a ring I could fab it from there. Someone needs to offer Custom Eaton diff covers.

There was one a guy posted on pirate a long time ago...I think he just welded it on so it really did look just like a 9" on steroids.
