Re: BBC Transmission ?

Turbo 400 if you want auto with strength, 700r4 for cruising and fuel milage, and if you want to flat out tear stuff up, you gotta go 4 speed

Re: BBC Transmission ?

For work truck turbo 400. driver not beat on 700r4. I have had extremly good luck with turbo 350 in my race cars. Yes I upgrade them but I've run them behind every kind of engine from stock 283 to 468 BB. The one in the 72 nova now has 2 seasons running and still works. I am going to freshen it before I take it back If I get to race this year. (health issues) I have had 350 turbos in old trucks that I have towed with and worked hard without any trouble. I guess what it comes down to is what you want to do with it and how much money do you want to spend to get it done

Re: BBC Transmission ?

Running a TH-350 behind my BB. Had it rebuilt and beefed up a bit. My understanding is that it takes about 25 more HP to spin the TH-400. I tend to drive pretty easy so I don't anticipate any problems at all. Good luck.

Re: BBC Transmission ?

496 bbc with a 700r4
Trans has been heavily modified.
14 vane hd pump
hardened input shaf (tci)
2800 lockup converter (tci)
race kolene clutches
kevlar bands
Bowtie overdrives tv conversion kit
full .500 boost valve
Modified valvebody for extra flow
Biggest trans cooler i could find
B&M synthetic trick shift fluid
Automatic torque converter lock up a 50 mph
If tci makes it for the 700r4, I got it in it!!!
Truck runs 7.9 in the 1/8th at 97 mph
cost has been $2800 cdn
cruising at 2400 at 80......priceless!!!

Re: BBC Transmission ?

Not a 454... but I have a Th350 backing up my Caddy 500. Only been driven 6 or so months like this, but it is holding up quite well, and we can pretty much call it a junk yard unit.

Re: BBC Transmission ?

I have three or four so lets look at he Blazer first, 454/4-speed(truck)205, then the 67 has a built turbo 350, the 90 454SS has a built 700r4 and yes I beat on it regularly and I also spent nearly $2k on it. I had a 454 in my 70 Camaro w4-speed (muncie) and I am here to tell you banging gears is the only way to go. TKO 5-speed is on the way for the Camaro and possibly one of the trucks (2wd)

Re: BBC Transmission ?

I would run a TH400, or if you got the bucks, use a 4L80E. They are stour enough to back the BBC up.
