axel swaps

What years of axels will fit on a 67-72? I would like to swap one out so I can have 3.73 ratio and a wider stance.

Re: axel swaps

Depends if you want 6 or 5 lugs but I take you are asking what years rear differential housings will work on a 65-72 2wd.... 73 up have leaf springs instead of coils. 71-72 are 3/4" wider on each side and are 5 lug. Most likely a 65-72 with a manual trans had 3.73 gearing. Many can be modified/fabricated to work.

Re: axel swaps

If your talking about your 72, the 73+ rears are the same width.

Re: axel swaps

there are no easy swaps to get wider than your 72's rear.
GM claims to have done that intentionally (front track width wider than rear) but most say i't BS. Even if you look on more modern trucks, it's the same way.
You could get rims with less back spacing...a deeper dish if you will. That'll place the tires out further.

Re: axel swaps

are the 73+ rears the same width as a 67? I have been thinking about buying some coil spring seats to have welded onto a 73+ rear...

Re: axel swaps

3/4" wider on each side---this is a plus ----10" wide wheels with 4" backspacing are near perfect
