Re: Build Date?

There is a sticker on your drivers door where it meets the striker pillar; it will have you VIN # and your month/year build date. On my '70 the sticker is blue.

Re: Build Date?

I would think that there would have to be another place. What about when a door has been changed and now that sticker is gone.....

Re: Build Date?

I know this may be obvious, but is the seat original? If so, maybe the build sheet is still stuck under it.

Re: Build Date?

If it were a Canadian Truck you could get a GM Resto-Packet for $50 CDN and would include that info in it.

Re: Build Date?

Other than the little blue stick in the door jam or the build sheet I don't know of anything that will tell you that. GM/USA didn't seem to really keep track of that, or at least tell us about it. I know the Canadian records/resto packest are specific to the vehicle ID and not just a generic packet like the US version.

Re: Build Date?

It's a shame that GM USA doesn't provide that info for GMCs. Maybe down the road they will.

Re: Build Date?

The closest you will get is to use your VIN number by the assembly plant built and the consecutive build number and compare it to other trucks out there with the original blue build tag on the drivers door. But again you have to be comparing the same factory plant not just the consecutive number. Another way to narrow it to within a month or two is to compare casting numbers on your engine and rear end. If it is the original, you should have casting dates within up to about 6 weeks before the build date. And of course the engine is stamped with the assembly date of that motor so it also should be just before the assembly date. I have only found build sheets for Fremont, California built trucks in all the trucks I have ever seen. They were always found sandwiched between the seat spring and cushion on the passenger side of the seat if you look there.

I have also found build sheets between the fuel tank and the cardboard like material that covers the tank.

Re: Build Date?

If you are lucky to have the metal Protect-O-Plate, it also will tell you the build month.
