Rebuilding 72 4WD 4 speed manual ?

I am in the process of building a 72 K10 with a 4 speed. It works fine but its a little sloppy. I thought I should rebuild while I have the cab off but I have never done a transmission. How hard and expensive is it? Thanks

It's never not going to be sloppy and if it's shifting fine or not jumping out of 3rd, I'd leave it alone.

If you do want to build it, it is a very simple rebuild. You will need a press to get some of the bearings on. I got my rebuild kit from Novak when I rebuilt the last one i did.

If it's jumping out of 3rd make sure you get the aftermarket spacer that replaces the 3rd, 4th snap rings on the couter shaft to fix the problem.

Funny you should say that it has jumped out of 3rd a couple of times! I have not driven this truck much at all and I don't want to have to take the tranny out after I have it completed. Thanks guys
