Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
by the way, there are not many hills in my city anyways, so i dont necesarily have to worry about my truck rolling away( at least not that far).

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
New cars don't even have E-brakes. They have parking brakes.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
Here in Texas, a properly functioning emergency brake is one of the items they are supposed to check during the annual inspection.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
Don't tell the state cops this, but one time I was so excited about getting an old Willys wagon that I had just purchased home before the guy renigged on the deal, that I drove it about 50 miles without any pedal, found no fluid in the master when I got home , and slowed/ kinda stopped with the e-brake. I had a pair of wires leading to the brake switch in my lap to bridge when I thought I needed to indicate to the poor sucker behind me that I was attem[ting to stop , to run the brake lights.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
Not to mention your saftey as well as others, your truck will not pass inspection without it in TX. I replaced all four cables and all of the hardware for about $125. I used a NOS front cable ($60), but Raybestos makes everything you need.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
I removed the e brake on my 67 because the ugly hand brake handle looked stupid. I'm going with an automatic, so I won't need it for parking and here in MN, if your vehicle is 39 years old, it doesn't have to meet the current "safety standards". Check your local laws.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
as said above, your truck has to have a e-brake to pass texas state inspection.for those who don't like the handles on the '67-68 e-brakes,you can swap in a '69-72 foot operated e-brake.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
I am putting the hand brake back in my 69/67 instead of the foot brake.

Re: E brake.... can i just remove it?
Would love to see a write up on swapping 69 or newer foot e brake on a 67-68.
I was going to do this on my 68 step as I also do not like the ugly hand brake. Problem I had was that the electric junction box sets sideways on 67-68 and there is no clearance for mounting the footpedal one in the firewall without major cutting and mods that I could see. Would love to hear details from someone who has done it!

I love the 67-68 e-brake handle! the pedal looking ebrake and the handle ebrake are we-todd-did!
