327 chevy truck crank shaft
i have a 68 chevy truck with a 327. the crankshaft is not dilled where the balancer mounts on the crank.my 350 chevy v8 motor has a bolt that holds the balancer on. i talked to the engine builder and he said the crankshafts on 327 engines are not drilled. that started with chevy 350 v8 motors.

Re: 327 chevy truck crank shaft
A lot of the older engines were not drilled and tapped for the damper bolt so your friend is right. I had a 69 307 that was not drilled and tapped so I had a drill bushing tool made up to guide the drill while drilling the hole. (The tool fit over the crankshaft with a center hole to guide the drill). It was a quick and easy job to drill and tap the hole with the 7/16-20 tap.
The dampers seem to stay on with just a press fit but I prefer to have them bolted up. Jim |

Re: 327 chevy truck crank shaft
I just put 1 of my 327 in my 69 and it did not have a bolt either but I had the machine shop drill it out and thread it for me.I have 2 other 327 same vintage and both are drilled and tapped from factory.I don't like the idea of the balancer comming off at 6 k rpm.

Re: 327 chevy truck crank shaft
my 327 is a 68 and the stock shaft was drilled and the aftermarket one too. It might be due to the fact thats its a 350hp corvette block. The trucks maybe different??
