Midwest 67-72 chevy truck meet!

Well, does anybody have any ideas where the best place would be? Missouri? Kansas? or maybe even Nebraska? And what town. Since the West Coats guys have something going I though we might get the ball rolling on one around here. See who would all show up and where the best location would be. I don't know if there is much I would be able to do, but I can guarantee I will be there and will try to get other people in this area to go.

I'd be intersted in helping too. I think maybe lincoln ne. or k.c. would probably be good places- easy to get to and a fair amount of lodging, food, etc.

I'll throw this in for discussion. For those that remember, a friend of mine had a truck, car, and bike show here in Winfield, KS last June (it was the first of what is going to be an annual show). I was talking to him last weekend at the Ark City show, and he told me he is going to make it a truck and custom show from here on, other vehicles will be welcome, but the judging and awards will be for trucks and custom cars (including classics). No offense, but bikes and ricers can just go somewhere and have there own show. We have an excellent facility (Cowley County Fairgrounds) that can handle large events (National Flatpick Championship hosts an average of 12,000 people at this location every year for over 30 years now). The guy that started this show has been involved in car shows for over 20 years, and is a vendor at many car shows in the Midwest (Doug's T's and Ideas), and he knows a lot of people in this industry. We could tie in a 67-72 Chevy-GMC Truck show with this show very easily, the groundwork has already been done, and next year's show is already scheduled (I'll have to get the dates, don't remember what he told me for sure). Doug and I have already discussed this idea, and he's all for it, so I'll open it up for discussion and get some ideas and opinions from you guys.

Thumbs up

Count me in! Don't forget our friends North of the border (Canada). I like Minnesota SD or ND. I'd consider traveling more distance if we get a number of folks involved.

Good idea, but remember if we want some Canada people to also come Arkansas City is a very very long haul. I know the Power Tour went through Lincoln Nebraska which also has Speedway Motors (which sells all kinds of custom stuff). That would also be a cool place. Either way I guess I'm there. It would be cool to get everybody's names that would go so we can all cruise down the interstate at the same time. If that Arkansas City show would allow cars newer than 72 I would have a couple other people from in town here interested in going (with Chevy trucks of course).

The trucks/customs show would make more sense to do.If there is a variety of vehicles for the general public to see more people would come to the event.I know it's hard to belive but not everybody knows what a "67-72 chevy truck" looks like .This way they would come to see "old vehicles" and maybe catch the bug that we've all got!

Gonna through this in the hat!

Kansas City All Truck Nationals. Its in the Fall (Just happend) Has vendors already there (Jim Carter,LMC, Chevy Duty, Manes) And thinkg it will be at the casino again next year. Its a show already being done by someone else, so noone from the board would have to spend their time with show business. Just a thought. Barns idea is good too.

I'm smack dab in the middle of south central Nebraska ( 10 miles north of Alma if ya wanna take time to find it on the map).....I've got about 40 acres of good flat ground, and 10 miles from the lake, there are 3 motels in Alma, and 1 in Orleans, It would make a pretty decent place for a show, or I could talk to the local Chambers of Commerce about haveing a show on main street in town (mom's on the tourism board).......or I would be willing to travel a couple hundred miles to a show...not that my truck's much to look at, but it would be alot of fun to meet more board members.

Well I am 35 miles east of KC in Wellington MO. THe KC area would be best for me, or even the columbia, warrensburg, or sedalia, or St. Joseph areas. KC does have a lot of vendors.

I'm in central Nebraska, and would travel just about anywhere within 3-400 miles for a show. KC, Lincoln would be ideal mainly because of the local amenities, space, etc.,but just about anywhere could work.I'm looking forward to it already!

whenever

Timing is everything. How about late may or early june wherever this is going to happen. All the other key weekends in july and august are booked with bigger events. You wont pull people or vendors from them during that time. Plus it dont have to be 90+ degrees. Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri sounds good for me. 1400 miles roundtrip, but it would be worth it. Bring some parts to trade and do some cruisin while i am there. Hope to see it happen....

lets keep thinking

From the previous posts most of the people are in Mo. or up north. So my suggestion would be to have it around Des Moines Iowa that seems to be pretty central to all of us. As far as a time goes I think sometime in the end of july or early august. Well thats my idea and just trying to keep it going guy's. Jim

I'm about 5+ hours away but I have to put my vote in for Lincoln, NE too. It is not too big or too small, easy to get around and the people there dig the classic cars and trucks. Why don't we do it in conjunction with the Americruise show next summer and have a whole section in the show with our group. They have a great cruise loop as well.

Either that or the Car Craft Nationals in Minneapolis, MN I hear they have a great swap meet on the last day of the show. Hmmm and Porky's Drive in on University Ave!

So, Nebraska would be better then? Lincoln is home of Speedway Motors, they are the oldest rod shop in buisiness. Over 50 years and have a HUGE facility. Maybe they would allow us to have a little show in their parking lot. Lets keep this going, or should we start a new thread with a poll to see where everybody would be happy with. Start one with quite a few towns and keep narrowing it down.
