removing 250 I6
I have a 250 inline six and im replacin it with a rebuild one, Ive looked in my chiltons, and ive looked on line, all i can find is hook it to the motor.
Is there a place or places that work better for pullin these motors out and then puttin the new one in

Re: removing 250 I6
These old engines never came with factory pull brackets. I've always used a length of chain that the bolt can pass through the link, bolted it to the engine on either side. You have to experiment with the balance point depending if you are pulling just the engine or engine & trans. I think places like summit sell lifting chain with mount tabs & lift eyes assembled. If you use the chain method, once you have the balance point, slip a bolt through the chain to make a "eye", that way it can't slip through the hook of the engine crane.

Re: removing 250 I6
Couple of possibilities. If you have angle brackets you can use the front and next to last head bolt, on opposite sides. I've also used a rear manifold bolt and a water pump bolt, but it's tougher to balance.

Re: removing 250 I6
when i pulled mine, i used a bolt through the chain where the ground cable hooks to and looped the chain over the back intake mainfold runner. was strong enough to pull the front wheels of the tractor off the ground cause i fogot a bolt for the bellhousin to the block. chris.

Re: removing 250 I6
there are tons of ways to do it. wanna see pictures of how i typically do it?
http://satellitehead.com/gallery/ Look for the "L6 removal" gallery and also the "inline engine swap" gallery. you'll find pictures of two diff't pulls. I usually just bolt to the head. Just make sure you take off the valve cover or you might dent it. Helps if you have a load balancer - harbor friend has one that works good fr less than $50. I think I paid $25 for mine.

Re: removing 250 I6
I removed the left back and right front head bolts then used them to fasten a chain to the engine. Worked like a charm.
