In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
A friend of mine hydroplaned and flipped his 70 long bed back in 1991. A friend of his happened to have the video camera on when it happened. He recently found the video, so I thought I would share it with you guys. Here's a link to the video. http://personalpages.tds.net/~brooks.../truckflip.wmv

Re: In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
Lucky no one got hurt!
I've hydroplaned like that once or twice, very scary business, lol I was fortunate enough to be able to pull out of the slide every time though

A good lesson in hydroplaning.
He didn't even look to be going that fast. Were his tires bad? Lucky no one got hurt!

Re: In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
I learned a lesson like that a few years ago. Except I was running late for work & doing about 70mph when I hydroplaned & hit a guardrail.

Personally I think the camera angle was all wrong. that he had the camera in the first place.

Re: In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
He was doing about 50mph, he had good tires. All the people standing around came from the near by apartments. I guess they saw the truck flip and came out to see if everyone was ok.

Re: In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
Sucks: That this happened.
Great: Nobody got hurt. Great: Video was running. Great: There were people there to help right-side it. Man, this really shows how venerable these trucks are to mishaps when it comes to hydroplaning. I didn't realize it would be that big of an issue. Some vehicles are affected more than others I guess. Must be the weight balance thing that causes it to spin so easily.

Re: In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
Wow, very interesting video!
That is one of the reasons I don't go cheap when it comes to tires (not saying the owner of the truck did). Geez I didn't realize 1991 was so long ago, I feel old |

Re: In Truck Video of a 70 Flipping
I had kinda the same thing happen in my 93 GMC a couple years ago, except on gravel. Went too fast around an S curve and went into a slide. I let off the gas and didnt touch the brakes and tried to correct it. Slide one way, then the other, then back the other way. At that point I was sliding sideways. It seemed like it was happening in slow motion. Right as the truck slid into the grassy ditch, it was just about stopped. Then the tires caught and it creeped over on its side. Ended up doing a half roll? and laying on the passenger side. Me and my friend crawled out my door and pushed it back over. Put on 2 spares and drove it home. Only damage to the truck was a dented front fender and a 8" crack in the fiberglass bed thats hardly noticeable. Put air back in the tires that got knocked off the rim and I was back in business. Theres still a couple footprints on my headliner.
