Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
I have never really liked it when people put the new style beds on there truck.... but this one looks damn good to me... it must be the shaved rear steps that make it look right.. now you just need to get a set of fiberglass fenders for our our trucks and cut out the round wheel well opening and make it match

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
I agree w/ ya 1LO that does look good w/ the shaved rear area and I had also thought about using the newer style bed and do abit of trimming to add glass 67-72 step fenders for the 67 project i picked up today. also going to revamp the drip edges

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
I'm with you, I have never liked new beds with these trucks, but this one is the exception. Very nice , but somebody put tons of work into it to make it the exception.

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
Hi everyone, new here but not to hot cars and trucks. Been modifying Chevys since the 60's. I thought you might like to see another example of new bed on a classic truck. I saw it on the side of the road and had to take some photos. The bed is not modified and sure flows nice with the lines of the cab.

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
the only thing tht really irritates the crap outta me with newer beds is that the front wheel well is round and the rear wheel well is rectangular. it really detracts from the body lines and looks mismatched if you ask me.
no doubt, that guy has done a WICKED job on that truck, but the wheel well shape is still all stupid looking and off.

The red one is a very good job, and is one of the few that looks acceptable IMO... but still looks funny to me. The 88 - 98 trucks look sweet... they are the second best lookin GM truck, second only to the 67 - 72, but they don't mix well. I like beanut butter... and I like Steak... But I don't want Peter Pan slathered all over a big thick T-bone. Just my opinion. |

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
There is a new truck just down the road that has a newer style dully bed on I think a '69 cab. I'll get pics tomorrow. The red truck is nice, but I agree about the lines not matching.
I didn't notice so much on the dully fenders, that might be why I like it. You'll see in the pics. |

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
There is a blck 4x4 like that green one running around here, and it is like Andy says, the body lines don't match up,look funky.
I suspect the red one has been sectioned with as much fabrication that has been done, that wouldn't have been overlooked IMO.It looks narrower between the bedrail, and step than the green one to me.

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
In defense of the new bed style on our trucks ... its like they always say about opinions and rectums - We all got one and I don't particularly have to care for yours.
I happen to have a new bed truck and at the time it was a LOT cheaper to get a take-off bed than trying to resurrect a rusted out hulk. It was bad enough trying to get the sheetmetal on the cab squared away. I imagine a lot of us were in the same boat. NOW you can get all of the bed pieces for rebuilds but in '96 you couldn't. I chose to keep the new bed on thru all of the whining about wheel well mismatch. I have a truck that is very nearly an exact copy of the red one and if your ride and a custom are in a show side by side, they each will get their own kind of attention. WHAT YOU GOT AIN'T BETTER, JUST DIFFERENT THAN WHAT I GOT !! I still don't care for your rectum (opinion).(End of rant) |

Re: Never thought a new body style bed could look so good
With all the alterations on the red one,it`s more acceptable,full-custom.But,just slapping a newer bed on is just an easy way out look to me.It`s been done for years on all body styles. The bed gets beat or rotted,so naturally a newer one is in better shape.Close, but no cigar.IMO
