Help with A/c controls

I purchased an a/c control that has the top lever broken and have also bought a part to replace it. I am not talking about the small chrome piece on the tip that your hand touches but the entire lever that pivots from a central point on the back of the unit.
My question is how do i need to go about taking this apart to get the new lever in? On the bottom is a small rectangular plate with two points that have ben flatened out. I can grind them off and take the unit apart but I dont know how to put it back together and keep it together after that. Any experts out there?

Re: Help with A/c controls

I believe I screwed mine back together, but it's been a while, so I may have just screwed it up.
