Locking the hood
I am looking to lock down the hood in my '71 in some way. I have a chain with a lock on it in my '68. But I am looking for something a little cleaner for this one. Thoughts? Ideas? Pictures? Thanx in advance

Re: Locking the hood
Any body using hood pins? I have a new cowl hood and am thinking about them, but alot of them just seem cheaply made. I'd hate to cut up a $500 hood and regret it.

Re: Locking the hood
someone has a thread somewhere in the FAQ showing how to setup a hood lock using new model parts. first place to look would be there.
krue's thread index for the FAQ is here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=157669 the link to the hood lock thread is found by searching for the word "lock" in that thread index. i found the not-as-good-as-Putter's one for you here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=61406 Putter invented a better one, IMO, and he also has a thread around here somewhere...(LOOK THREE POSTS DOWN FROM THIS ONE FOR LINK)

Re: Locking the hood
I had an entire thread on the "IN CAB" hood release, but can't find it anywhere.
Most of mine use a 88-94ish truck hood release so it is mounted under the dash. My personal truck uses one from a late 80's Chevy truck so it is wall mounted. (I'll look for pics) Here is my old setup used the 88-up release...this is the old cab, also. Look under the fuel gauge and see the black release handle (I removed the white wording)

Re: Locking the hood
As far as hood pins, normal ones you get at Auto Zone won't work, they aren't long enough.

Re: Locking the hood
I installed a Directed Electronics Rattler kit on mine...which is a keyless entry and alarm.
It has an input for a switch for the hood. So I have keyless entry now, and a switch on the hood, as soon as it is popped (the handle is released), it will deafen you with a blaringly loud siren. It isn't locked, but it is secured. The truck cannot be started, as there is a starter interrupt pulse in the alarm kit that cannot be deactived unless you turn the ignition over with the key. Maybe they could steal it, but it would be loud, and they'd have to be in a secluded area. |

Re: Locking the hood
Sounds like a good idea too, maybe a good combination with the release cable. (Sirens dont always deter the quick open, steal, and run guys). I do like the idea of keyless entry though.

Re: Locking the hood
Putter needs to send me a few royalty's, since he drooled all over
mine back during his planning and designing of this new concept

Re: Locking the hood
Got my latch back. Thing looks good and seems like it wuould work quite well... if maybe I didn't have a tranny cooler in in the way of the new bracket. I modified it by moving the bracket towards the radiator (behind the tranny cooler), then it fit. Only problem now is that I cant open my f#$@'n hood because the new release lever is hitting the back of the tranny cooler and wont alow enogh travel to open the hood. Now I need to get through the grill and get the cooler loosened enough to allow the blasted lever enough travel. DARN IT! It sucks to be me. Done venting now
Let this be known... this is entirely my fault, putter put out a pretty cool mod. It was my oversight not thinking about the tranny cooler. Now that I have seen it, maybe I will try it on my '68.

Re: Locking the hood
Guys,
I have modified my "Putter hood latchassembly". For safety reasons, I have the in-cab hood release disabled. I have mine remotely operated off my security system and an actuator/pop solenoid. Safety first!

Re: Locking the hood
Hoping not to be too ignorant, what is the safety reason?

Re: Locking the hood
Thanks. I made one of those for Rob over in Fla., too, except his is cooler. I put fiber-optic high beam cruise, and check engine indicators in his.
