1993 GMC P/U Starter problem
Question....
I have a 1993 p/u with the 5.7 350, auto, 4wd. The other day in just as the engine was starting to truner the, the starter stopped cranking. Power is fine everywhere else on the truck. I found that if I stuck a small wrench up to the solenoid I could engage the starter and start the truck. I did replace the solenoid on the advice of a couple people.... no change whatsoever. I also unplugged the safety switch for the shifter and jumped it with no success. Can someone offer me some assistance with this problem. I am really in a bind not being able to use the truck Thanks! Re: 1993 GMC P/U Starter problem
When you go to crank the truck, do you have power at the small wire going to the solenoid? I would check there. If no power, I would work my way back through the truck.
My guess is that it is in the ignition switch or in steering column. As for the truck that does not start when hot, this comes from excess heat to the starter. You can attempt to make a shield to try to shield some heat from the starter, or you can buy some foil looking wrap that you wrap around the starter to help insulate it from the heat.
