Re: speedy sleve
It's a thin metal sleeve that is tapped over a used balancer hub or pinion yoke that has a groove where the seal rubbed on it for a long time. It restores a seal-worthy surface to an expensive part that otherwise would have to be replaced.

Re: speedy sleve
I have never heard it called a "speedy sleeve" but I have installed many of them on the harmonic balancer on many small block Chevys.

Re: speedy sleve
Speedy sleeves aren't cheap, but $42 does sound a little high.

Re: speedy sleve
Another name is redi-sleeve. And that price is the going rate, I was quoted $38 2 years ago. I would guess they quit making them, since the last year for the ho52 was 72.

Re: speedy sleve
I think speedi sleeve is a chicago rawhide brand. Never used one, but I've heard they'll restore the surface and get rid of those pesky drips. They say that you install using loc tite to hold it in place.

Oh, and I like to stick the part in the freezer for a while before I whack it on there. I've never put one on a rear end however. I've only used them on the front of a small block Chevy engine.

Re: speedy sleve
size rather than application is why i thought i'd try the bearing house before i shelled out the money at napa where they list everything by application
