Re: Big Block frame mounts for 68 chevy truck 2wd???

yes, there are 2 styles, the common 68 - 71, and the one year only 72.
The 68 - 71 are a dime a dozen...maybe not quite that cheap, but cheap none the less. However, the motor mounts will cost you.
The 72 style, the frame mounts will be stupid expensive... but the mounts are dirt cheap.
The later style is prefered, stronger set up.
Although, since you'll have headers on your big block, you don't even need the proper mounts and towers... you can use small block stuff and no one will ever know.

Contact LIVRAT. He just had a set of 68-71 stands for sale on the board for $75 (I believe). Just a couple of days ago. Don't know if they sold or not.

Brother's makes a set of tubulars for $129 bucks, I wish I would have bought those when I did my swap.

When I did my BBC swap I tried to use SBC stands. I went through 3 sets of headers before I finally bought a set of correct BBC stands. The headers were hitting the oilpan and frame on the passenger side. With the BBC stands the headers I had fit like they were supposed to. No cutting or denting anything.

If you think that is high for 68-71 frame mounts you will have a heart attack when you price the motor mounts. You might want to research this swap cost wise.

Re: Big Block frame mounts for 68 chevy truck 2wd???

Yes, the 68-71 stands will be around $75. Anything less will be a good deal. The rubber mounts are around $69 each side from the vendors( like GMCPAULS). The '72 only mount set-up are getting pricey now too. Alittle harder to find also. When talking about the strength between the earlier design or the '72 only, neither is more stronger than the other. This is only true on the BB's. The later design is stronger and better on sbc set-ups. Dont let anyone tell you that sbc mounts will work just as good on BB applications, they're wrong! Sure, you might be able to get by with it, but not a good idea on the older (67-70) linkage rod set-ups to the carb when the rubber mount breaks when you have your foot into it!!

Re: Big Block frame mounts for 68 chevy truck 2wd???

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 68-71 VS the 72 big block mount towers? I have a pair of big block mount towers I purchased from the local Chevy dealer new in box. I just dropped the eng and Trans in (468cid and a 700r4) the engine is sitting at an extreme angle. So bad the tail housing of the Trans is hitting the cross member where the speed-O cable goes in at. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As far as helping you with your big block question. I would say to contact early classic enterprise. Very knowledgeable and friendly.

I have a set of the 68-71 with restored/blasted towers and new repro MMs...
OR
72 set with new urethane inserts (you install)...

$200 + shipping for either one.

You can still get the 68-71 style at your GM dealer!
