How to remove reverse light housing, fleetside bed?

I have a bad reverse light socket on my 72 GMC fleetside. How do I get to the wires that it is connected to? I pulled the 2 screws out of the housing, but how do I get to the harness? I will order a new one soon from LMC, I think they are the only one who sells it. Should I just pull as much wire out thru the hole in the bed and cut it, and solder the new one in?

There is a connector that the wire plugs into. It is kind of a b*tch to get to but it can be done. I found that the easiest way to get it was to take the wiring of the stoplight housing that allows you to get a little bit more room to slide it through to reverse lamp hole to get to the connection. Or sometimes if everything is out of the way you might be able to get at the wire from the under side.

You can undo the harness from the frame connection and feed the wire up, or sometimes you can get to it by pulling the taillight out. Some trucks have enough wire to unhook and some dont.

Kewl, thanks!! Another question: How do I work those crazy clips that hold the moldings on our trucks?
