Progress pic and Question
Finally have the new motor on the frame.
Question.. How do I get the new valve cover grommets in. I've pressed till my hands turn blue, but still can't get them in. I'm affraid of ruining the fresh paint using a tool to force them. Tips anyone? Last edited by darrel_s; 10-07-2002 at 10:25 AM. |

Or just put a little motor oil on the grommets. Then when you go to push them in, start turning them and they should pop right in. You might have a couple small drops of oil to wipe of the valve cover, but that's no biggie.

If their your old ones you'llnever get them in !!! Buysum new ones and un alittle hot water on them (to soften them up) and then they should pop right in !

Thanks guys. They are new, so hopefully one of these tricks will work.

Just this last weekend I was trying to get new bumpers in my lower control arms. THEY WOULD NOT GO IN. I was a raving lunatic throwing tools around trying to get these things in when Shane suggested I boil them in water for 5 minutes.
Those bumpers are HARD, and grease wasn't going to help. I was going to have to work them in with a dull screw-driver. After boiling them they were way softer, and I could work them easier. They took some effort but I got them in.
